Alternative to holding tank

In looking at options for a larger holding tank an acquaintance has been considering chucking the tank entirely and going to Raritan's Electro San compact treatment systems which are approved for direct discharge into sensitive waters. Installation might save storage space

Does anybody have experience with these units?

Never heard of this, but reading the blurb on their website it sounds brilliant. We sail on Dutch inland waters and use a holding tank, but emptying it is a proving a problem in our particular marina. I know some people who have a "porta-potti" sat in their heads compartment, next to the marine WC, because it's easier to empty!

The big question is - How much???

I think you\'ll find

it's only acceptable in US waters and there was a lot of argument as to whether it was acceptable in the Everglades.

The theory has been around for a long time and providing you've bags of available power it works well.

Whether it takes less room than a simple holding tank is doubtful - you need two fairly large chambers for a 4 person crew.
