YBW recommends Polymarine Letterflex paint for the job of putting the boat name on a PVC dinghy.

On the internet, I found it at £16 give or take but that turned out to be without VAT and £7.50 postage. So £27 for 9 letters!

I'm too mean to pay that, so what alternatives do I have? Or just back to the 99p felt-tip permanent marker?

When I had an inflatable tender I painted the name and used a small tin of Humbrol PVC paint and a cheap 1/4" Chinese brush as used by students in art or craft classes. This was many years ago but I am sure that there must be something similar now. I believe that at that time it was used for changing the colour of vinyl seating in cars.
You can also use artist quality acrylic paint, straight from the tube. Student quality is even cheaper and could also be used if black and not too runny; other colours might not be so lightfast.

In the Caribbean if you put the name of your boat on your dinghy the thieves will check if it is in the dinghy dock and if it is go out and break into and rob your boat. I don't know if that would happen in the UK but we put a Part One number on it, alternatively make up a name.

Permanent felt tip marker I used a big one with square end to give italic effect. Practice on cardboard And Mark out guidelines with very soft pencil.
Worked for me
