When I replaced my Dodgers / sail cover / sprayhood ... the yard used Sunbrella ... looked really nice when completed.
Once completed - we sailed the boat back to home port .... and when rounding breakwater - this happened :
The Sprayhood tore when guy fell forward.
You may consider this OK - but when I think that the original sprayhood had lasted over 20yrs ... had been subjected to far worse in various severe weather etc. even in its final worn out state would most likely have survived that - I am not impressed by Sunbrella.
I had to pay for repair ... I don't blame yard ...
But I do call out Sunbrella.
My 38ft boat has no sprayhood and I seriously considered fitting one - but given that Sunbrella is so universal now - I am reluctant.
My 24ft Mobo cockpit tonneau is old and worn - needs replacement ... again the question is Sunbrella ??
What about old fashioned Tent Canvas ?? is that still around ? OK - it needed to be soaked in waterproofing solution every so often ... but ??
