Alternative auction website

Hi we are getting 1500-1200 users a month at the moment.
We have only been going 2 years but we are selling world wild.
We are Totally free for any sailing charity or non-profit organisation to use (they just have to contact us first info@justboatstuf.com

Two years and doubling in size each year! it takes time to get something off the ground and we have no backing Yet!!

Hi Aussi
I wanted to have something different from any other site and that not an easy thing to do. I have structured it in size of boat i.e. supper yacht +100ft (big boat gear), cruising -100ft with keel (general boat gear), Classic (old boat gear) etc. As the site gets bigger this should help to split things up a bit but I can see how it seems a bit much now. I might be wrong!
We only have a small amount of listers on the site at the moment so yes there are some categories that are empty and I can assure you this looked worse a year ago. Come back next year and I am sure we will have more filled. Mo Co-Founder JBS

Nice to have the Cofounder on the Forum promoting the auction site. Personally I think its a great idea and provides a bit of competition to the other auction websites.
Good luck for the future and I hope that the site goes from strength to strength.
I'll be posting a few items on the site after Christmas as I need to have a bit of a sort out of all the stuff I've accumulated, just need to get my backside into gear, take the photos and write the adverts!!

It's really good that you have spent time to respond directly here, that's much appreciated. I definitely understand the complexities (and agonisation) over setting up good category hierarchies for e-commerce and library sites, it can be a difficult task and in my experience it's almost never possible to get it perfect first time. I can definitely see the logic behind your choices, and of course ultimately it's your decision, but it might be worth considering an interim plan while the site is growing, to keep the category structure simple and effective - then you can always extend it in future.

Hi aussi
Many thanks for your advice - we are always open to ideas - we have a lot of work ahead of us and a long list of upgrades etc to work through! But being mentioned on forums like this is a great help and hopefully in the future as it grows we can make it a site you all want to use! Have a very merry Christmas, Mo
