I was told about this port/marina by somebody else, does anybody know of an internet link to get to see the place and the marina? I'm thinking of wintering there 2003/4, so would like to contact and find out prices, availability nearest airport, what its like in winter etc. etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The "marina" is pretty small I think but it was recommended by a Brit
skipper I met in Greece this year. He said the local who charged for the
berths was most helpful with lines etc during a period of bad weather.
I have sailed round Sardinia twice and enjoyed it, but wintered my
boat in Campoloro on the east coast of Corsica, although Solenzara is
more popular.
I suspect flights or ferries back to UK may be easier from Corsica too.
I used to drive from Brighton to Bastia in 48hrs courtesy of the
overnight ferry from Marseille to Bastia.

Yes, I heard it was small, so was the price, I believe Ryanair, fly to sardinia, close to Alghero. But Corsica would also be a choice, I liveaboard, so would be more interested in what the place was like in the winter, does it completely die and close up etc. I know this "marina" has no shoreside facilities, showers toilets etc. but I don't need those anyway. There is a chap on here who stayed there, and told nme about it, I think David but not sure, I can only find general details of Alghero, not even pictures of the place.

Last October, en route to the Eastern Med, we stopped at Cagliari for 2 weeks due to engine problems. I took the opportunity to fly back to the UK from Alghero (£75 round trip, Ryanair). Alghero is avery pretty old fortified town, apparently popular with Brit tourists, with a well protected harbour and small marina. In mid October there was a certain amount of activity around the marina; however, it might be a lot quiter in January. I would suggest that you contact the tourist office there for more details where they speak excellant english. I was so impressed with Sardinia in general, that I am bring my own boat out there in May. I have arranged for 6mths berthing at a small marina in Cagliari for less than £400 from September. If you would like further details please send me a pm.

I have just spoken to our "company man" who lives near there. OK I know hes Italian but he does not work for the tourist board, but he does say it is a very good area and not too expensive, for a poor DD. He does not know any internet sites but if you try www.barcos24.com you may find a link, english, to it. You are at work at the mom I believe so you should have enough time for looking :)

Re: Alghero.Wintered there

We spent last winter there and although we travelled to Cagliari - would certainly recommend Alghero as being a very special winter for us. Yes its quiet, but not too quiet, you can spend the winter by the old wall run by Aquatica or alternatively go for the full shabang water elec run by Frederico - i have all contact details if you want. - All I can say is highky recommended and lots of great people are there.

Obviously, you are missing the "Votre Livre de Bord" !
Alghero p. 737

Come on at 20 Euros (£12.50) it's a bargain, and for that price, you'll have infos about 15 more marinas in Sardinia.

:)

There are a couple of websites, neither have anything about the marina (which incidentally is a port not a yottie place).

I've e-mailed to you, separately, some jpegs of the October 2002 "Italian Waters Pilot" by Rod Heikell - I think this is the best you're going to get, there are contact numbers there.

Thanks Charles, I got the pages, only to find I have the book onboard!! Must have bought it and forgot I had it! I don't really want a yachtie type place, feel more at home in a harbour anyway. Just want somewhere with a little life in the winter and safe/cheapish moorings with an interesting hinterland, I have my motorbike onboard!
