Any suggestions for a good place to leave the boat for a couple of weeks between Lagos and the Guadiana.... up river would be OK. I understand nowhere is cheap this time of year but I know forumites have up-to-date info!

A lot depends on how much you want to pay, all the marinas would do fine, though I would suggest Lagos and Albufeira are perhaps the safest and Albufeira the cheapest. Next down the cost is probably a lift out at Bruce's in Faro. The cheapest would be anchoring in Alvor, Faro or the Guadiana. I suspect transfers may be less easy from Alvor or the Guadiana, but you could almost row your dinghy to the airport from Faro though most use the good bus service from Faro station. Transfers should be cheap and easy from the marinas, though the closer to Faro the lower the cost, though I used to do Albufeira return for under 10 euros each way.

When are you going? My mooring at Faro is free at the moment (we're in Porto) and there are a couple of others for rent. PM me if you want details.

Huh!

Thanks for tellin' me!!!

I'll just continue paying telephone number rates in Lagos then!!!

....only kiddin' - back to blighty tomorrow.

Just to be nosy do you own the mooring or rent.?
Harbor/marina or mooring buoy?
If you own how much would it cost to buy one nowadays?
Yearly/monthly costs?

The reason why I ask is that I was looking at doing a similar thing but really don't know if it's feasible ...
Thanks..

It's my mooring, no rent to pay to anyone. They're all private and unofficial and could be cleared away any time by authorities. I paid 1,500 euro for it 7-8 years ago, dive annually to check it and I replaced the chain/riser swivel etc last year, cost around 350 for the parts. A few moorings can be rented via Clube Nautico or owners but I don't want the hassle of "being responsible" if any problems so, let people use mine F.O.C. short term while I'm away, neighbours clear them off when I'm due back. Occasionally, one comes up for sale.
