Alex Thomson's Noble Gesture

I had a feeling he was going to do that. Well done Alex, a brilliant decision on a brilliant race! You are in for one hell of a welcome in Les Sables....

I'm not taking anything away from Alex, who is my favourite in the race by far but I think every skipper I this race would do the same, they're a special breed these solo skippers, always looking out for each other as they hope somebody else would do the same

Yes, top man. Noble, indeed. But a gesture? That's when you take a welcome bottle of wine to your new neighbour. I'd call hanging around solo in a wintry North Atlantic rather more than that.

macd,

top man indeed.

There was the case of a French singlehander on the Vendee Globe, taking to his liferaft and bringing a bottle of champagne to his rescuer - true class !

Sorry, I don't have the books to hand to look up their names.

There was the case of Loic Peyron who went to the assistance of Philippe Poupon: Poupon had capsized and was lying on his beam. Peyron managed to sail close enough to him to grab a line, secure it and haul him back upright. A remarkable bit of seamanship.

A good sport indeed, although he can be reasonably confident of finishing ahead of Dick if he decides to keep sailing, so unlikely to affect the result..... unless AT has a problem of his own.

I was surprised to read he cannot seek redress for time lost, though.

It was nice to hear what Alex was doing, but also touching to read Dick's response.

It's good to see Alex redeem himself after the pre race fiasco last time around.

Why do you feel that Alex has to 'redeem himself after the last race'? I don't recall him doing anything that would mean he has to redeem himself.

+1

I wonder if Alex will do another VG? Half way into this race he said he needs a new boat and he now has strong connections with Caterham Composites (Mike gascoyne) and i believe Mclaren, all F1 technology. Still, what a race this was/is, loved every second of it and i will follow till the last guy gets home.
