As I typed that I suspected it may be the case. The advantage of the Internet which did not exist when I first heard about it which probably explains the volume of these urban myths in those days. Now, anything like that is immediately outed as being false.

Back to said lantern. I bought one today and it looks good. A bit surprised to see a symbol on the box which seemed to imply it's for indoor use! Strange as it was advertised as a fishing lamp. Leaves me with visions of a fully equipped angler dangling his rod over the aquarium!

The 3, 5 and 10 Watt aluminium torches I have bought from Aldi over the years have been very good and bright. The 3 watt ones I have had for a few years are in need of attention and are out of warranty. The 5 and 10 watt ones are of seemingly good construction and say they have Cree bulbs, all have been extremely bright.

Unfortunately these may be o/s now but if anyone sees one they are worth getting imo. Depends on your lifestyle but I have found mine very useful especially the multi-led lantern bit. The whole thing is very light and feels balanced in the hand - wish I had got two.
