Aldi Handlamp.

After testing in the dark, a useful bit of kit, spotlight on dim setting bright enough to illuminate dark recesses in boat, on high, good beam with useful illumination out to the claimed 200m. The LED flood is bright enough to provide lighting for saloon, good enough to read by.

Time will tell, but it does have a three year gtee, and is made in Belgium. But then maybe not, as further info comes to light...did you see what I did there?

I bought one as well, it seems very good and what I do like about it, it's not got a rechargable battery which is almost always flat when needed, a pack of Duracells which I bought a few months ago have a 5 year shelf life so it should always be ready to use.

Also off to get one but made in Belgium - that is hard to believe, maybe it is the start of a healthy move back of manufacturing to Europe .....

I bought a battery charger from Aldi; it looks good (I haven't used it yet), but I was interested in where it was made. However, the only company name on it was in Germany - but it was obviously a trading company, not a manufacturing one. I couldn't find a country of manufacture anywhere on the equipment or on the documentation. This appears to violate labeling regulations (country of origin is supposed to be marked, isn't it?), especially as I strongly suspect the battery charger is Chinese - which is not a criticism!

Unfortunately these lamps are made in China. Quite reasonable quality but if you require just brightness then there are kree torches on ebay that are better/cheaper. These lamps are nice and chunky but not too big - thanks to Vara for the heads up :)
From memory there is no requirement for country of origin to be marked.

It looks poncy.

I would'nt have thought so to anyone with a good eye for practical design.........I could'nt resist having a look at one as I pass an Aldi on my way to work & my suspicions were confirmed.Dead tacky, bought a couple of tins of the acrylic undercoat though as I'm doing my cabin & saved a few bob there.:encouragement:

CREE has been a revolution in torches.
I have a couple off ebay, brightness to size ratio is fantastic.
Mind, you still need low brightness torches 'cus if you fire up a cree in the cockpit your night vision is shot for a good 5 mins!

CE marking is not origin marking. The letters "CE" don't inform the consumer anything about origin of the product.

...unless it's the 'China Export' mark...

Not sure I would describe it as tacky - of course it is not as elegant as a nicely machined aluminium torch but the design is quite clever. It has a swivelling handle which makes it fit nicely in the hand when walking - I also quite like the size/weight balance.

The main drawback is I guess that the Kree bulb on full power will eat batteries (they quote 4-5 hours) and I am not sure whether rechargeable ones which are of a lower voltage will drive the emitter satisfactorily (should be oK for the multiple leds in the lantern part though).
