We are heading up to Aldeburgh next week (haven't been for a year or two) and wondered if anybody could tell us the situation at the moment with visitors moorings there.

As I remember, there used to be two on the right (seaward side of the river) near the Martello tower. Are they still there? I there any way of booking a buoy at all in Aldeburgh?

Any help gratefully received.

No way of booking but there were four visitors' buoys last summer - any number of other ones, just give the boatyard a call and they'll allocate one for you. You can't pre book the visitors ones.

These visitors moorings are very helpful and a welcome service to visitors.
I noticed that some yachts were rafted two up on them. When I mentioned this to the launchman he said that each mooring could take up to four yachts, but you would have to sort it out amongst yourselves, he didn't want to get involved. What a wise bloke.

Cripes - I've seen some very rough water just there, wouldn't do much for anyone's topsides in a blow rafted in the middle of a pair of lumps like LK.

Yes there are two visitors moorings in situ, opposite the Martello Tower. They are fairly obvious as there are no others in that area, also have 'visitors' painted on them. These are Upsons moorings and there is a small charge. Upsons is the big grey shed by the Town Quay. You can find their phone number quite easily.
You can anchor quite safely to the immediate south of these bouys if they are being used and no doubt Upsons will find you somewhere on Westrow as there are still quite a few vacant.
Hope that helps, otherwise ask me another?
