I have just purchased an Albin Comfort 30. Anyone on here own one or know of an owners web site? Lots of stuff on vegas and ballads on the web but I've found very little on comforts.
Comfort 30 had lead keel and better skeg than the Ballard's encapsulated one.
Sailed a comfort 30 for several years.. won almost every race we entered.
Out pointed the ballard in all conditions.
Comfort does tend to sit nose down if you dry out against a wall, Keel is much better shape for sailing but not so good for drying out...So you MUST make sure she cant Fall over forwards
All in all a delight to sail... Engine was a Flat single cyl yanmar.. and awfull
The Ballad was based on Joker - a Rolf Magnusson design dating from 1968. About 1500 were produced between 1971 and 1982.
One of the original moulds was modified and used to produce the Comfort 30. I'm not sure what the modifications were, except that the Ballad has a full length skeg, and the Comfort 30 has a half skeg with a semi balanced rudder. Both designs had encapsulated lead keels.
There is a Danish Comfort 30 website Dansk Comfort 30 Klub - depending on how good your Danish is.
comfort 30 is a great yacht. had one myself and found it a great boat to sail.some of these were built in cork by godkins and i believe one of the brothers moved to scotland and built 4or 5 more. they are a safe and steady boat with a great turn of speed and can hold their place with any other in their handicap class. very steady and forgiving in heavy seas, and i think you will enjoy her.
