Is it just me...or have all the really useful chandlers gone ?
I'm talking about the ones that had the 'Aladins Cave' round the back....all those 2nd hand bits and bobs that , (Practical), sailors thrive on....
Old cookers, brass lamps, magneto's that look as if they will fit, (and rarely do of course!), bits of rope....bits of bits of rope...rusty anchors, chain....deflated buoys..etc....etc...
All realy useful stuff.
'One Stop Chandlery' in Hatfield Peveril springs to mind....(now closed, downsized and moved to Maldon), I used to spend hours just looking around the back ...
Andy Seedhouse in Woodbridge...still going strong.
Us 'Practical' sailors should start a directory of these gems...
Anyone remember Thomas Foulkes underneath the arches in Leytonstone............what a place ......
