AIS transponder and AIS receiver systems... on the same boat!

Hello all, this may sound silly, but here's the thing:

I already have a B&G V50 VHF installed. It has an inbuilt AIS receiver, connected to my Garmin GPSmap (woks great).

I am considering installing a separate AIS transponder, standalone, with its separate antenna on my mizzen mast (for added safety).

Will the VHF receiver continuously report an imminent collision with... myself? (the MMSI will obviously be the same in both machines. No info in the B&G literature)
 
Why not disable the AIS Rcvr in the VHF and feed the AIS data from new transponder to your plotter ?

That is a reasonable solution - yet I spent a great amount of effort to set up the NMEA2000 network (and plotter screen) and it all works soooo smoothly now!

Plus, I am considering an "economic" solution for the transmitter.. which means no NMEA2000, no USB no nothing. Just a black box from the East...
 
In Simrad MFDs you need to input your mmsi, this allows them to ignore your own boat (a Raymarine A50 I used to have didn’t have this facility so I was constantly getting alerts). Maybe your Garmin has the same facility.
 
2000 is fine IF you really need multi facility. But in reality - 0183 is perfectly good for most.

Before I got shot for that statement .... consider that if all you are doing is feeding one data to one other unit - why have all the end resistor hassle of 2000 when simple 0183 does the job.

I am well aware that some are die hard 2000 ... others are happy with 0183 ... and I can understand both parties.

I have 2000 capable gear ... but the simple cable, single data transfer need I have ... 0183 is so much easier.

Oh sure, I am not an NMEA2000 "fanboy" at all. I just built everything around a Garmin set that I recently bought and it was easy and fairly economic (special offer, already-owned cabling and the old MFD was totally compatible, etc). So, it is now done!

P.S. routing the cabling proved to be the major hassle.I ain't doing that again! :D

No it won't.

I have the same radio and a separate Transceiver. Just make sure you program the MMSI and You're good.
