Ais question

A thread from last year
I expect all AIS transponders can be switched to receive only.
It seems some people have their AIS on all the time, even when at a mooring in a marina . I don't see the point in that. I have the electrical feed to my AIS through a switch on the main electrical panel.

I've also noticed how many AIS targets remain active, even when there is clearly no one on board and the boat is shut down on it's berth. I can't see any benefit to this but there must be some reason they're set up like that?

My own transponder is only active when all the other electronics are switched on.
