I seem to recall reading on here that older iPads running Navionics were prone to the app crashing when connected to a Bluetooth AIS receiver. Has this been rectified does anyone know? Mines an iPad 2. Anyone running Navionics & AIS on such an ancient device?

I don’t think it’s the blue tooth receiver that’s the problem but the amount of data that is needed to be processed, probably not solvable on an older iPad.

IIRC the IOS version needs to be one of the later ones 12 or 13? There was a thread on here discussing the problem, Navionics were aware and there was the possibility of a fix but that didn’t happen as the iPads running earlier versions of iOS were not able to cope with the processing of the AIS data on top of everything else. Seem to recall someone getting a refund because of the problem.
I’ve used the AIS display with data via a Yakker Bridge on my iPad running iOS 13. I’m going to take my older iPad out this summer and see how it performs: if I can make it work, then it’ll become my AIS display and be mounted to be visible outside. Otherwise I’ll continue to use my newer iPad as an occasional display when needed.

Ais on navionics is really a gimmick. The display is really limited to showing a contact on a chart. Its usefulness is very restricted in comparison to other commercial offerings. I prefer to use Open CPN as it has probably the best tools for Ais display. The collision avoidance display and the ease of use put many commercial offerings to shame. Navionics has a lot of catching up to do to match it. OpenCpn is a free download for windows, linus an mac and a small charge for android phones and tablets.
It's a shame that it wont work on an I pad!
INavx is a possible better alternative than the primitive Navionics ais for iPads?

Aqua Map displays AIS targets very well on my iPad and has collision avoidance feature.
