AIS integration & Displays

There's a spare Pi3 stashed away in a ziploc with working SD card, when the B+ came out I just *had* to have one.

I use the Kip sigK app from MXtommy, looks fine for me, but I'm focused on content much more that form. Theere to do a job, if it looks nice as well then so much the better

I'm toying with the idea of having a new hobby, making my own dials and trying to code them. This is a sketch I did at lunch time. I would really like to see some open source good looking and modern dials.

Might be you have enough hobbies already ;)

Must take a while to learn how to code the drop shadows etc in javascript.
Sailguage has a load going on too.

I bet it does, but those gages... they are really not what I would like to have. I rather make them digital then have them like that. I do have a couple of colleagues that did the coding for RT and VOIP that I can ask for a hand in that. Depends on the quantity of beer involved as price off course.

I'm really after a more modern feel and look to the display of instrumentation and data.

Don't forget the view from the cockpit with a glass of rum in a tropical anchorage is much nicer rather than spend forever getting it all looking like you want... :)

you misunderstand completely, I'm afraid. You know when you sail to the Azores and then to the US coast and get those beautiful days of floating around hearing the sloshing of the water on your slowly drifting hull? well, great hobby to have. :p

that one is a Like, not a priority. But something to keep me busy when I'm done building the damn boats.

It's my acquired German gene that needs to have things done properly.

A cruising boat is a verb, not a noun. You *do* a cruising boat, not have one ;)

Always something to do .

or use a pressure sensor (that's what I use) and map the output into something useful :D
if you want I can find the thing and spec sheet somewhere.

will start a shortish thread on sun readable and other displays for duinos/pis in the w/e if I get the right replies...

lol lets keep this one the Nerd corner, we have peace and quite and can actually get something done. Yeah I'd love that. I'm starting to plan the systems for Oddity and those things do come in question. Or any other solution off course.

Hehe In the end you got more in sun readable screens then I have in that price range:encouragement: It's a brave new world out there.

Decided to go with the: Raspberry Pi 3BPLUS-R 1.4 GHz 1 GB RAM 64-Bit Quad Core. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Raspberry-Pi-3BPLUS-R-Processor-Computer/dp/B07BFH96M3/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1548953772&sr=1-8&keywords=pi+3b%2B

What about heat sinks and box? Heatsinks I can see a case for. The box I’m divided 50/50 as to leaving it open for ease of access or making a waterproof case using a little Hardbox style thing that you can open and close. Downside will be the cooling.
