Any ideas on a ballpark cost to install aircon on a Targa 40? Just a ballpark as doing some sums for a master plan!

I ve got some real figures for a slightly bigger vol .
3 spaces
Bow cabin , saloon , stern cabin .

Using 3 Marin air self contained ( sorry cant remember the sizes ) 1 in each space fitted turn key €12000 inc tax .
Using 2 , one of which was bigger , self contained- the bigger with ducting to do two cabins €8000 inc tax - turn key .

Central chiller with piped water to 3 air handlers €18000 inc fitted .That was winter 14/15

All 3 fully reversible - the 3rd most expensive has a massive 42000 btu .Frigomar D.C. low amp in useage and start up so there’s enough geny capacity for other stuff ,saving the need to up spec the geny .

Air handles are quieter than having 3 individual compressor s running - with quote 1+2
The Frigomar one - check it out on Utube is so quit ( the main chiller unit ) we have it under a bunk and you wouldn’t know it’s on .Its not in a hot ER either .
The pumps are and the ER sound proofing takes care of that noise .

The beauty you have at the mo is a blank sheet ——- do your research .

Scarey , think having a full glass out repaint of a car , you need guys with the correct tools to dismantle and retro fit it all do the electrics into your existing panal s and 220 v etc .Then reassemble back to OEM standards .

Sunseeker put me intouch with an Italian guy who’s works for them retro fitting AC , not OEM self contained units as clients request a silent solution.
No regrets we run it all the time , all night .

Just to add
There’s plenty of online btu calculators, try a few .
From memory mine averaged out at about 24-28000, for the vol of the spaces .

Went for 42 K btu , humidity and just wanted rapid cooling , inthe sense not wanting an exact size capacity working its 8ollocks off , wanted plenty of headroom.
It can get hot in an airless Med concrete marina in high summer ,and after a good run out there’s a considerable amount of heat soak from the iron lumps and heated remaining diesel in the tanks .
Great in cooler times- warms the boat , but not so great in August .

The standard fit is a unit under the stairs that cools the saloon and rear cabin. This is I am 90% sure it is 12k btu. It might be 15. The front cabin unit is under the sofa and is 7k.

This was ok but I did add an informal pipe from the front cabin to the saloon when it was really hot to aid cooling.

£4-7k depending on whether you want to do whole boat or just saloon/master cabin. Assumes you already have generator.

Cheers JTB, have an Onan Gen Set already. I was reading Portifino’s post thinking it was gonna cost me 18k!! Phew. May join you med boys at some point soon......

You will need a bigger generator to run more than 1 unit .
A free standing unit for occasional use is good enough for the uk , there about the size of a dehumidifier.

Some years back a mate fitted one under his aft cabin bed , not sure if you have room but would be worth a look

You can run 2x units off a 4kw generator, but you'll need soft starts. Typical sizing for the T40 would be 16k and 9k btu. Installation locations on the T40 are under the saloon stairs and under the master cabin bed. No space under the aft cabins beds, one has the fresh water tank, and the other the holding tank.
