After a good days sail ....

Very few Irish whiskeys are peated, but I agree that there's a different flavour to them, not sure why - maybe just different practices in terms of brewing, distillation etc?
According to something I saw a few years ago, Ireland dominated the whisky/whiskey business until a couple of hundred years ago when a new form of still was invented that would produce the drink much more efficiently. As the story goes, the Irish rejected the idea because it affected the quality, so it was taken up by the Scots who made a killing by flooding the market with much cheaper blended whisky. It is really only in the last forty years or so that malt whisky has come to the fore, while Irish has for a long time been a niche product in the UK generally. I buy Irish occasionally, but although I quite enjoy it, it does have a slightly odd character which is not really what I am looking for.

My FiL used to drink Famous Grouse. At that time, in the ‘70s, I think it was probably a lot better and had a higher malt content than other brands that were better known at the time.

I don’t have refrigeration aboard but luckily I’m a Real Ale Twat so it doesn’t matter

At ‘bilge’ temperature I find that malty beers like London Pride and dark beers like Blackshore Stout work best. Hoppy beers, less so.

The problem with having a bilge full of good beers is you sail to an anchorage with a famous pub attached and then can’t be bothered to row ashore since you’ve got better stuff in your own ‘cellar’.

I have to admit that when living in Cowplain (near Havant in Hampshire for those not familiar with the place) ..... Real Ale for me came down to HSB .... which of course the Brewery being small and local was excellent - but then got bought out by Fullers - who produce your London Pride ...

The talk at the time was HSB would be phased out to increase LP sales .... but up to time I left UK - HSB was still going strong !

If you are lucky enough to have a fridge on board, prosecco and Limoncello makes a nice summer cocktail drink.
Other than that, it's rum, gin, wine and lager on my boat. No whisky or ale for us.

At present my fridge is OFF ... as I am still needing to swap out the near dead domestic batterys ...

I also need to replace the old solar panel on deck and add more.

It did disappear but was recently brought back. I don't think it's quite the same, but it's close enough. As a Cornishman I prefer Tribute though, despite living in Portsmouth for many years.

Oh I’m sure there are loads that cost a lot, I’ve just never found one with an e that didn’t taste better with coke, lemonade, or ginger beer
