Aerial Video of our trip from Port Solent to Bembridge of our Sealine F37

great video thanks for posting, F33Man can you tell me how difficult these are to fly, I bought a petrol model helicopter a few years back with a wing span of about 1m I am sure you know what I mean it was a raptor of some description. I tried and tried to fly it but after about 6 months and HUGE spares repairs bills I gave up and sold it on ebay are these as difficult as that to fly as I classed that as impossible :o

Totally different beasts...... You'll be fine with a quadcopter. Yes they still need an element of handling but all axis are stabilised.

I have also flown helicopters myself, I actually learnt on a Raptor, quadcopters are much easier to fly than a helicopters, for example, if I came off both of the transmitter sticks the DJI Phantom is set to automatically hover as it uses GPS to hold the position. The throttle/height transmitter stick is set to the mid-range position so if you want to go up you simply push the stick upwards if you then come off the stick completely the quadcopter will automatically hover at the same position without any input whatsoever as the stick is sprung loaded back to the mid range position, if you want to come back down you simply push the sticks down etc. If you are going to buy a quadcopter then I would strongly suggest buying the Phantom.

Yup, excellent vid. Is there any law covering where these things can be flown and who or what they film? For example could you fly them over the superyacht anchored in the same bay and have a nose around. Yes I know that on some Russian superyachts, that would probably trigger a missile defence system but on yer average superyacht?

How would this land on a boat and not in the water ??????

Last year, I bought one of these but I haven't spend much time on it
These float and land (crash) into the water.

Did have a quick go over a few days at the end of last year.
There is a short youtube clip somewhere taken during my few days of experimenting.

These things are incredibly difficult to get going.
I take my hat off to you to get footage like that.

EDIT
Here's the video of my Aquacopter that I mentioned above
It did actually fly but it took us ages to understand it.

Maybe topic for another thread rather than take away from the video but they sound relatively simply to fly? i am surprised as the little helicopter i have to fly in my living room is almost impossible without crashing into the wall or sofa!!

Im guessing it comes with a lot of practice but you seem to manage to frame the videos very well with subject in center shot. Is there any way to see what the camera is filming from the ground?

if i were stood in the center circle of a football pitch, how far could it fly away and still remain in control (working out how to get it back is of course another matter!)

Assume one control stick is for height and the other 4 way? one would be for direction? can they spin around? think iam going to have to find someone and have a look how they work!

Check this http://www.fpvuk.org/fpv-law/

The main bit being.....

167 (1) The person in charge of a small unmanned surveillance aircraft must not fly the aircraft in any of the circumstances described in paragraph (2) except in accordance with a permission issued by the CAA.
(2) The circumstances referred to in paragraph (1) are:
(a) over or within 150 metres of any congested area;
(b) over or within 150 metres of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1,000 persons;
(c) within 50 metres of any vessel, vehicle or structure which is not under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft; or
(d) subject to paragraphs (3) and (4), within 50 metres of any person.
(3) Subject to paragraph (4), during take-off or landing, a small unmanned surveillance aircraft must not be flown within 30 metres of any person.
(4) Paragraphs (2)(d) and (3) do not apply to the person in charge of the small unmanned surveillance aircraft or a person under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft.
(5) In this article ‘a small unmanned surveillance aircraft’ means a small unmanned aircraft which is equipped to undertake any form of surveillance or data acquisition.

Zippy, with the hardware specified by F33 man above, the csmera aboard the copter wifis its image back to you on the ground, either to your phone, fpv goggles, or an fpv screen, almost in real time

It can fly about 800m from the transmitter

The left stick is height (up down) and yaw (left right). The right stick is roll/pitch, ie it moves the thing NSE orW and all points in between, and it achieves that by rolling or pitching like a normal copter

The phantom has an intelligent orientation mode whereby it controls yaw automatically so it is always pointing "front away from you". Then the movement of the right stick makes it behave logically relative to you on the ground. I mean, moving the stick towards you brings the copter towards you; moving the stick left/right moves the copter move left/ right in an arc around you. In this mode, if the camera is attached "pointing backwards" on the copter, it will always be filming the controller, which is good for boat work (obviously you have to use the gimbal to tilt the camera up/down so the boat is in centre of shot). All that said, I do not know how the intell orientation works if the controller itself is moving, as it would be on a boat... I have suspicion that I-O mode works relative to a lat long for the controller that is fixed in the copter's memory at the start of the flight, and isn't dynamically updated, alas.

ok many thanks. I think I can see all that clobber on quadcopters.co.uk. Time to do some shopping...

Looking forward to the next crash video...............:)

Enjoyed the one shown by F33man, I'd be interested to know how long he would expect a complete novice to master the quad copter with the skill he displays.

I think by law there is an age limit of 75 for flying these things in the UK, ljs, so it's not even worth thinking about for you

Terrific video, thanks for putting it up. We are sitting here saying "cor, wouldn't that be great to have a vid of us like that ?".

I guess we'll be seeing some fab developments in this type of thing over the next months/years. As each manufacturer launches something another will make a progression with their next new model, you can just tell that auto follow and auto land are so going to be completely standard features before too long.

Thanks,

Andy

Thanks F33man. Like others on here, this post has got me thinking about buying one so...I mentioned to Chris that I'd like to buy two things. One being this quadcopter and the other, a fear of flying course. His reply?: 'Let's do a cost reducing exercise here and buy a big quadcopter and strap you to it!'
Funny guy! lol
