Advice- weather forecasting equip off shore?

can anyone tell me what the best/popular off shore weather forecasting equipment is & how it basically works?
any brands/models/advice much needed

The most usual equipment is a weatherfax receiver that gives you weather charts by radio. You need a good communications receiver, a computer and a good program for WXfax reception. For about the same price, you can get an SSB transceiver and antenna tuner and just contact Herb ("Southbound II") on 12.359 KHz and get the best forecast available for your position.
