Advice on varnish

Trying to repair the epoxy edges on the the Milanes laminated wood foils on my Solo dinghy and thought I'd give them another coat of varnish. The existing varnish is exceptionally smooth - I guess 2 pack and may have been sprayed on. The remainder of the Hempel Classic varnish left over from doing my washboards has gone a bit glutinous - I need something quite thin that will preserve the smooth finish when brushed on. Any ideas?

Thinned varnish? Perhaps as much as 50% thinners?

I usually manage to get a smooth finish by mixing a little Owatrol into the varnish and applying with a foam brush, though I'm no expert and only have small areas to deal with.
