Advice on Menai launching

Tother slip is 'Plas Coch's'
One needs a key to enter the parking / launching area
The 'Council' one is manned during it's available hours.
It was accessible yesterday with no posts blocking it.
Have they actually moved the bouys Rushie?
Didn't seem like it Tuesday.
Shot from C1 an C2 to C3.
Low water neaps, only doing 30 kts
Plenty underneath only dropped to 4ft!!

The buoys had not been moved by a few days ago, MF was still going to the left of G1 (Going out). There could be chaos when they finally move them and folk still go to the left. MF wont of course cos she's now found the right way and got 4M under her bum.

From an e-mail Saturday, the chartlet on the CHT website has not yet been updated, but I'm sure Richard (Dick-Dock) will give you a paper copy if you see him.

Not sure if this will work. File is a pdf & too big for YBW, so I have put it in the Marinaskip (Boatophucket won't accept pdfs!)

Check this link

The link works for me, but I am logged into Yahoo groups.

C1 & C2 seem to have been brought S & closer together so that if you dodge S of the green you will still be in safe water.

Just in case anyone reads this stream of messages:

The really nice little slipway opposite Port Dinorwic is closed - big council signs saying no launching and a post concreted into the slipway.

What is it with councils and closing slipways?

I might just drive over the beach and plonk it in - I don't agree with getting fleeced to launch a boat.

That might have something to do with CHT / Gwynedd wanting to have all launched vessels registered and displaying numbers in their latest knee jerk reaction while that launch site is from Anglesey side into CHT water and who require no such rubbish to launch into their waters

Nowt to do with that Bruce

I am only plonking in the worlds smallest rib with an outboard. You could almost carry it at a stretch.

I've put boating on hold for 20 years due to the kids and now I can't wait any more so I've got a little rib to keep me going while I get something larger.

I am only looking for a couple of days on the water - if I go, for example from, Dinas boatyard and pay all the fees and registrations it will cost me the best part of £80 - bonkers for such a small vessel.

I am not irresponsible - I am insured and a qualified yatchmaster - I just can't get over the cost for such a small boat for a few hours on the water.

The private slipway at Moel y Don is still available for use by boats that have been registered to launch by ACC and have the permission of the owners. The action has been taken to stop unregistered, unauthorised, uninsured and antisocial use of the water off Felinheli. There is also an extended speed 5 knot speed limit in operation. There never was a slipway just the old ferry jetty. The beach access was closed off as it never was an official Public launching site. It has been a cause of complaints from many local residents and boat owners.
Is your boat registered with ACC or Gwynedd CC ?

TSB240 thanks for your helpful reply.

I am visiting family in Bangor, so I am not registered. I fully intend to register and have visited the websites of the CC's to check it out.

Any view on which one to go for then glad to hear it.

Do you know who the owners are? from the sign I thought it was council. Anyway whoever they are I could write a polite message to them requesting and see what happens.

For everyone sinfo I have added a photo of the sign.48348d93-dacd-4ecf-bdb7-2fda06628599.jpg

Thanks,

Thank you BruceK no I hadn't but that looks good. Their website says £14 for self launch - is that for the slipway then? If I can get beach access for free then happy days.

It seems that I am falling into a hole where it's expensive to do 2 or 3 days at daily rates but also not worth an annual payment.....

Anyway to be honest I was looking to try the stretch east of Caernarfon and west of the new bridge becuase it will be the end of Oct and that seemed to offer calmest water / most shelter etc... I was worrried that East of Beaumaris might be choppy.
