I recently bought a 218 and as yet have not had it out in the water. At the moment it is on the driveway and I have the heater on in the engine comaprtment ( powered by on shore elec.)as we are experiencing some v cold weather her in the west of Scotland! I have been away for a week and when I checked the engine compartment today, I noticed that the hot water tank was on and making a slight gurgling sound- not good I assume as I didn't think there was any water in it. I have turned off the electricity supply but can any one tell me if there is a separate on/off switch so I can maintain the heater and not the water tank? Heaven knows how much electricity it is using!!
Cheers

I would suspect that your calorifier is fitted with a mains powered immersion heater which is switched on, heating the water and causing the gurgling sound. There will almost certainly be a switch for the immersion heater. If you turn the immersion heater off, don't forget to drain the domestic water system otherwise the calorifier, etc. will freeze if there is insufficient heat coming from your general boat heater. As you were unaware that the domestic water system contained water it is probably fortuitous that you left the immersion heater on - otherwise it is possible that the calorifier could have frozen up. Damage may have already been caused to taps, pump(s), etc.. Make sure the whole domestic water system is thawed out before pumping out pipes, taps, etc. - if frozen, on being turned on the pump(s) may burn out or fuse.
