Hi All,

My circumstances have taken a dramatic change of late and I've made the decision to relocate to the canaries where I intend to live aboard.

The following is very close to where I'll be berthing and for ease of everything it would make an ideal purchase for me, I'd love feedback from the forum with regard this make and model of boat / engine combo.

I'm viewing in person at the end of the month, so anything I should look out for?

I would of course get a full survey prior to proceeding.

Thanks in advance, Rob.

hi rob what engines does she have ,will you keep it under spain flag if so you might nie number or similar and boating qualifications ,someone will know more ,good luick ,ps if you go can you take a tape measure and measure the width of the transom door cheers roy

nice looking boat, good price too. I looked at a few here on the mainland. I think they usually have 63Ps - so not too much to worry about there just check history and see if they pull evenly as the boat accelerates, check oil pressures hot and cold fast and slow. Keep an eye on the temperatures. The Astondoas I have looked at may not always be up there in build finish quality behind the scenes, compared to a Princess, but they are heavily laid up and strong. Engine and gearbox access is usually good too. Usual stuff, good survey and take it for a proper test.

If its Spanish registered you will probably want to re-register it on UK registration either part 1 or SSR. SSR - very easy, register online, certificate in 7 - 10 days. However if you want to do the Spanish boat skipper exams you can do that and keep the boat Spanish registered. However being Spanish registered brings other issues to so probably best to change it. Check the owner has all the correct paper work showing VAT paid, owners etc. Boat Registration is a big thing in Spain and done thoroughly, so I would be very surprised if they don't have it. The Spanish de-registration process is a form filling exercise but the minions take their time to complete the process. Best done via a Broker/agent. Its not for the first timer unless your Spanish is excellent.
good luck with it. My friendly broker charged me 180 euros to do the SSR and de-register my boat.

Thanks Kashurst,

As I intend permanent living in the Canaries with no residence back here in the UK would de-registering from Spanish be allowed and because of the 180 day rule I am going to be officially classed a resident of Spain will I still be able to use my 10m+ ICC as proof of competence or would I need do the Spanish exams?

Also I think I'm going to be liable for the 4% transfer tax but would I also have to pay the 12% matriculation tax?

Rob.

Hi Rob
sorry you have me there, that's a situation I am not familiar with. Probably best to check with local law firm in the Canaries. Same on Tax but different parts of Spain do different things. Pretty sure you don't pay the matriculation tax.
