Advice for a novice prospective boat owner.

Well just a wee update - have spent last few months flying across to England/Wales and looking at lots of different options. F37 we loved had zero history in its time in the med plus didn’t ring true to the pictures. Another was lovely but the history of being submerged is too much of a risk for selling on if it doesn’t suit. Bid on a Doral and got it sold from under us just as my husband was booking a flight so all in all a bit deflated.
Have circled back to the S42 we originally saw. Has bow and stern thrusters and good service history plus heating/ air con and probably more room than we need but I think we are going to take a chance and go for it.
Madness perhaps but we will take our time do the courses and ask for lots of help so fingers crossed this might be the one ☝️

Hopefully. We have spoken to them twice now and both times walked away combinations of size, us being novices and price. But hubby intends to contact again tomorrow. Not sure there much wriggle room but I think we’ll have to suck it up if it’s what we want. She’s really lovely I think.

Nice looking boat,
Next Monday I'm off on a Day Skipper practical on the Clyde that will be on a Targa 35 with twin VP and outdrives, to get more training so I feel more comfortable and responsible taking my wife out to sea on our boat.

The training helps and the difference between our small boat and the larger one is quite big, the bigger boat is much easier to handle, wish we had done this years ago!

Thought you had a broom 38? Bigger than the targa.

Hi folks

Looking for general advice. We have decided to throw caution to the winds and buy our first boat (both mid fifties with no clue).
We plan to use it in the lakes initially (Enniskillen) and hopefully get to grips with the basics before heading any further.
We have looked at Sealine F37 and S42 both beautiful but have been out off a bit buy one of the marina owners who feels the S42 is a bad choice for newbies.
We don’t plan to be out at sea any time soon if ever and want to do something we can enjoy together as hubby and missus.
Any advice at all very very welcome as we have zero clue!!!

Ta in advance
Loving reading your thread, just into our 50s too and I'm on the hunt for a sports cruiser for exactly the same thing. I'm super keen to get out to sea ASAP as I'm still a keen surfer. Run my own business so can get the time off when the conditions are right to cruise around NW and West Coast which really appeals to me. Good luck in the search for your dream machine! It's definitely a bit overwhelming!

Thanks so much ☺️ Update - we’ve taken the plunge and will be sorting the deposit and trying to get a survey done ASAP on a beautiful S42 we’ve been looking at for a couple of months.
So fingers crossed we might have our own first boat in a few weeks.
Honestly - beyond excited with a fairly healthy dose of sheer terror intermittently makes an interesting combinations of emotions 😂
Took lots and lots of advice - from folk that own boats to our broker that will be hopefully berthing the boats and the fantastic folks on here.
Everyone we’ve met or spoken to have just been so generous with their time and advice. A really lovely bunch of people.
Good luck in your search - the looking is half the fun 🤩

Hope this all works out for you.

Well she’s being transported next Thursday. So we will hopefully see her on Saturday all being well. Next is sourcing all the interior and kitchen basics plus getting a local skipper for a few lessons once she’s back in the water after she’s had a few things sorted as per the survey.
Honestly. Feels like Santa on Xmas Day never thought I’d get the whole small child excited feeling again - but so glad I have. We are both sort of panicked a bit - middle aged no experience etc. but it’s a new challenge and to be honest no bad thing I think. Keeps us both on our toes 🙈😂😂
