Thought you had a broom 38? Bigger than the targa.Nice looking boat,
Next Monday I'm off on a Day Skipper practical on the Clyde that will be on a Targa 35 with twin VP and outdrives, to get more training so I feel more comfortable and responsible taking my wife out to sea on our boat.
The training helps and the difference between our small boat and the larger one is quite big, the bigger boat is much easier to handle, wish we had done this years ago!
Ocean 37, 11.6m overall, the Targa 35 is slightly bigger at 11.79m so no difference in size really, the previous boat they had was a 42ft semi displacement cruiser, I was looking forward to helming that oneThought you had a broom 38? Bigger than the targa.
Loving reading your thread, just into our 50s too and I'm on the hunt for a sports cruiser for exactly the same thing. I'm super keen to get out to sea ASAP as I'm still a keen surfer. Run my own business so can get the time off when the conditions are right to cruise around NW and West Coast which really appeals to me. Good luck in the search for your dream machine! It's definitely a bit overwhelming!Hi folks
Looking for general advice. We have decided to throw caution to the winds and buy our first boat (both mid fifties with no clue).
We plan to use it in the lakes initially (Enniskillen) and hopefully get to grips with the basics before heading any further.
We have looked at Sealine F37 and S42 both beautiful but have been out off a bit buy one of the marina owners who feels the S42 is a bad choice for newbies.
We don’t plan to be out at sea any time soon if ever and want to do something we can enjoy together as hubby and missus.
Any advice at all very very welcome as we have zero clue!!!
Ta in advance

Hope this all works out for you. Thanks so muchUpdate - we’ve taken the plunge and will be sorting the deposit and trying to get a survey done ASAP on a beautiful S42 we’ve been looking at for a couple of months.
So fingers crossed we might have our own first boat in a few weeks.
Honestly - beyond excited with a fairly healthy dose of sheer terror intermittently makes an interesting combinations of emotions
Took lots and lots of advice - from folk that own boats to our broker that will be hopefully berthing the boats and the fantastic folks on here.
Everyone we’ve met or spoken to have just been so generous with their time and advice. A really lovely bunch of people.
Good luck in your search - the looking is half the fun![]()
