Advice about Volvo 2003 alternator needed

This was a photo of it in motion, I’ll try and get a clearer one stationary later on, the further you tighten the belt the closer the blades get until they rub against the adjuster bracket, or is it mounted incorrectly? The previous inherited one was a much smaller mark 2 Astra version that had a few home made add ons to make the bolt holes line up.

On page two of the 2003 workshop manual, it shows the tensioner on the far side of the alternator end plate, so it doesn't go near the fan.

Did you adapt the mount on the engine to take your old alternator?
That's what I thought, too, but I'm too far from the boat to verify it. But for what it's worth, I think it should go the other side of the end plate, too.

Thanks for all your assistance, after a bit more jiggling and remounting I realised the main mounting stud still had a large washer on it carried over from the previous (smaller) alternator arrangement and which was now stopping the new alt from being fully slotted into position, alignment all good now and charging away albeit on the front face of the alternator, will take a further look to see if the tensioner bracket has been adapted, the old alt was mounting on this side and I have seen photos of some 2003s with same arrangement (example attached) my one is the second photo, might try it the other way next time I take it off!

I reckon that's an if it ain't broke situation. Though if you wanted a bit more clearance, you could use a coach bolt with the head to the front of the engine. Pick the size right and the square bit would sit nicely in the tensioner slot.

At present I don't see any need for a higher output, so I'd prefer a direct replacement, if that's what turns out best. Parts4engines do a direct replacement at £125, which doesn't seem too bad.
If you can source the same then there should be no probs with alignment etc...
