Adverc charging system, a good thing?

I sent it back to them, fault found and repaired then not too long after re-installed it started again. About an hour working properly then the voltage would start to rise again and it would cut out with high voltage light on. According to Charles, the fault couldn't be with his product, must be the boat wiring. Even tried it with the voltage sensor wire on the alternator to rule out any battery cable glitches, same result. Returned again but I re-engined and didn't re-fit due to possible warranty problems. Never got around to fitting it again, solar does the job.

The high charge rate light lit intermittently on my Sterling. I rang Charles to ask advice and was told it was a poor earth connection. I searched extensively, could not find the problem and decided to live with it as it was infrequent. Much later when fitting a volt/amp meter I found a dodgy connection in the earth connection from the alternator, that previously I did not know existed. Cleaning it up fixed the problem permanently.

My 1984 boat came with a Sterling installed when bought 10 years ago. It charges at 14V+, approx same on shorepower. Batteries appear OK. The engine start battery not quite as good at holding charge as the twin house batteries. All are 70Ah approx 2004 vintage. Should I be concerned? What can go wrong?!!

Battery charger or an alternator booster

I wouldn't be worried, probably thousands of their products out there and most are reputed to work well. Just that I've had problems with a couple of them, the alternator booster and an inverter.
