In the process of selling I have dug out all the necessary paperwork for the new owner. The BoS when we bought the boat shows our old address, and I am putting together a new one showing our new address. Does this matter?

Also should I have re-registered on the SSR when we moved house?

As far as the old Bill of Sale is concerned, the fact that the address has since changed is of no consequence as long as it was correct at the time the Bill was made.

A lawyer might write "formerly of [ old address ]" after your name and current address on the new Bill of Sale to your buyer. You cold do that too, if there was room on the form. But I really wouldn't lose sleep over it.

You should have updated the SSR records for your address when you moved. However, it would be a little petty for the buyer to take up this point if the address shown on the SSR certificate matches your old address per the Bill of Sale to you.

BoS as others say ... relative to address at time of Sale to you.

SSR - is not proof of Legal Ownership ... but yes you should have changed the address on it ... but no big deal really.

If it was part 1 registered then that would do the trick.

In other cases, it is a chattel so possession of the yacht + chain of title shown by the Bill of Sale to you should suffice. Other evidence is nice, which is why people tend to ask to see the last few Bills (if there are any). Likewise SSR can be indicative but, as stated above, no more than that.

I think youhave your answer .Just as an extra to your post what would prove legal ownership of the yacht ?

It's like the V5 of a car .... Keeper Only ! The only proof of ownership is the Dealers BoS to you ...

Over here in Latvia (Estonia similar) - the Technical Reg'n card with the car states clearly Owner and who is entitled to act on their behalf if not same ... I believe the Tech. Reg'n card for a Latvian boat is similar ...

In a similar situation, I produced a letter in the format "This is to certify that on the {date} of {Month} {Year} I moved house from {old address} to {new address} etc, signed it and had it witnessed by someone who I know well, and provided that with the BoS paperwork etc to explain the disparity of address.
This was going to a dealer as the yacht in question was part-exchanged for a brand new one, and both dealer and their bankers (who capitalise part exchange purchases) were completely satisfied that the paperwork I provided would satisfy any query over proof of ownership.

Just a thought......

Nick
