…The obvious place being in the round area in the lower central area of my control panel, that looks like this one:
I think I’m right in saying that circular part currently houses the warning beeper - is that correct, and if so is there any reason why I shouldn’t relocate the warning beeper?
No technical reason AFAIK why it could not be relocated
It is wired to the warning lights via separate diodes in the older panel but in newer panels the beeper has integral diodes and separate connections to each of the warning lights. Make sure to identify the wiring and connections before you start.
Personally I'd leave the beeper in the panel and install the fuel gauge separately. It will only need a switched power supply from the "ignition "switch whereas the beeper is more entwined with the panel wiring.
Cheers for replies.
It doesn’t have to be on the panel, no, but that would seem to be the obvious place for it, being very close to fuel tank (so no long cable run, and easily visible from helm position in cockpit. I rather presumed that this spot was ‘designed’ to take a 52mm gauge as its exactly the right size to house one and it explains why they made the beeper housing round like that. I’ve only had a brief look behind the panel, but it looks to me like the entire beeper housing will detach from panel easily - it’s either a screw fit or bayonet fit I think.
