Adding an inverter - or generator?

I thought my solution bordered on being uncivilised. What next, some scaffolding and hard hats while you wolf call the birds on the next boat?

whisperpower guy is in shamrock quay. Parts easy to get and sensible price (exhaust temp switch)

Remember you only need about 3kW with no aircon.
Shorepower is 3.5kW or thereabouts definitely no more than that,
It is good to have an inverter too for use underway so it's easy to start with that and fit the gennie one you've actually done some boating! Got to come out to fit a gennie of course.

OK that makes sense. Some are 5Kw / 4KVA.

Not sure I can do both :oops:... and that had occurred to me, needs cooling and exhaust skin fittings. So next Spring.

Where's your sense of adventure? If you're real quick with the insertion of seacocks no need to come out :p:ROFLMAO:

Have a good look about. My boat had a genny but the P.O. gave up on it in disgust and fitted an enormous hot water calorifier in it's place good for a family of 4 for two days without running the engines. All the fittings are there but blanked off including an underwater exhaust. I would not be surprised if a genny was a OEM fixed feature of any cruiser rather than an optional add on. BTW yes I have deliberately tested if my bilge pumps could handle any of the seacocks bursting. A live test as it were. We're good (y)

Bilge pump testing, that made me smile :) very good.

Yes, that's a possibility, it's certainly a factory option so the seacocks might be there. I'll find out on Friday.
 
When I first confessed to that the board was in shock horror. I'd have thought everyone tested that their bilge pumps could actually do what you'd hope they could do. Apparently not. Apparently they are there to get rid of the odd rain water leak and other annoyances. Seems a bit optimistic when the boat comes with loads of holes in the bottom all screaming "sleep on this" when you tuck in for the night at anchor.

We have a smaller Mase 3.5 sits between the two main tanks .
Yanmar 400 cc diesel but and it’s an important but it’s air cooled so has fins on the head like a motor bike .
Theres a fan which blows air ...cooled air from a seawater air cooler .
So the corrosive seawater just passes through this which is anode protected and peanuts any how .
I think it’s original if so it’s 2001 and still going strong and been uneventful in my tenure .

Oh belt snapped once for the pump ....as above a French car parts store ....‘twas €4 it’s x parted with a Citroen AX belt so I bought a supply .The water pump is the common Johnson FB impellers found in every chandler €15 a pop .

Easy service , cheap as chips to service über reliable .

Not sure of the rpm it’s constant does not rev up think 2600 or so but it’s in a box and I have further added more sound proofing.
Noise is not an issue .It I understand can be but in reality if you think carefully where to place it , and it’s exhaust etc then it’s ok .
As said if you intend to spend more time ( not just week end dashes twixt work ) , tour around , anchor off ....or as other have said “ she needs the hair dryer “ ........a geny makes the difference between camping and living normally like at home on board .
