After plodding along from SQ to Hythe, filling the tanks and then back out again. Then half way up Southampton Water at 3200rpm the temp alarm sounded. I cut the engine and checked the drive for fouling. Then the impeller housing for temperature. It was very warm. So hobbled back on one engine. Removed impeller cover but nothing broken, filter was also very clean.
Impeller was meant to have been replaced around last September time. No way of knowing for sure.
Couple of comments so far are;
splines stripped.
rubber gone hard.
Any other ideas?

what boat / engines do you have?
did you take the impeller out and check it?

could be a failed impeller - if it was replaced was the new one a genuine volvo one?
if the pump housing got very hot you will need a new one anyway.
or you could have caught a plastic bag

Sometimes a "good looking" impeller can have a bad hub (the impeller gets unseated from the hub) allowing the pump shaft to spin freely without spinning the impeller. Possibility?

AD41P in a S38.
I didnt take the impeller out. Mechanics are not really my domain. Although looks easy enough to do.
The impeller has JMP and a 2 on it. So not sure if it VP.
Hopefully a technician is coming over to look soon.
