Cover of heat exchanger is warped due to salt leak/build up.

Engine oil emulsified - head gasket?

Anyone a rough idea of costs of professional repair for the above?

Can the head be got off with the engine in situ?

Sounds very, very expensive!! is it the oil cooler that has been leaking and distorted? if so that may be the source of the emmulsified oil,not as bad ,but if that is not the case, then it's almost certainly the head ,ouch!!
good luck
Oh and welcome by the way

Thanks gonfishing, I don't think it's an oil cooler. What do you really mean by very, very expensive - say more or less than £1,000 to do the head gasket?

If it does prove to be just a head gkt job, and assuming the access to engine/s is good, then 6-8 hrs for removal & inspection. Often at this point some other problem rears its ugly head.

Top end gkt set, for say a 31B, £255.00 + Vat.

Total, with no other problems present would very well the best part of £1000 spent.

Talk to Paul Grieve at Coastal Rides, he will annalyse the problem and give you a fair price. If parts are US he stocks second hand replacements for Volvo's
