Actually...

You can just about see Whitby from Sunderland!
Marina is right at the river mouth, easy peasy and a short walk from the beach, pubs and chip shops.:D
I'd say go for it....

If you find you're falling short of Sunderland, Seaham has a hardly-used harbour (the north harbour, the south harbour is commercial).
Only about 6 miles south of Sunderland, but worth knowing.
It more or less dries out, but would be a safe spot to stop for the night.
I've heard there are plans to dredge it and build a marina.....

I was intent on Hartlepool in the end, but it wasn't to be. I was running low on fuel, so popped into Whitby for a top up. By the time I walk to the petrol station, it was getting on a bit, so I've decided to stay until morning.

Also, in other news, I'm broke, big time. I can't afford fuel nor marina fees beyond the next couple of hops, so I'm taking the drastic step of selling my watch :(

Open to offers if anybody is in the market for Breitling Colt Automatic.
