Hi,
Our club has acquired a 24 ft. Achilles which it intends to use to teach youngsters and new people to the club basic sailing and seamanship.

Whilst we have a decent mainsail we are having a problem with the genoa. We have been given a decent genoa and planned to fit slugs to enter the twin foil on the forestay, (It is fitted with a foil but not roller reefing).
Does anyone know where we can obtain small slugs probably dinghy size to fit the foil?
The alternatives are to have a small luff rope fitted or purchase a new sail.
As the scheme is in early stages it's currently being run on a shoestring and any assistance to source items is much appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation of information.

If you only have one headsail and it has hanks on it, would it not be a simple matter to remove the foil temporarily to allow you to use that sail on the bare forestay. then in a season or two if funds allow for the purchase of new sails the foil can be refitted if desired. A sail made for hanks will not reef at all well without a bit of modification so all you can do is furl it and you will need uv protection. I would prefer a bolt rope to slugs if you decide to keep the foil.

Additional supplier will be Kayospruce at Segensworth Fareham, but you will need to know the thickness of the 'neck' and the diameter/shape of the slider portion to ensure it suits the slot of your foil. Page 87 of their 2011-2012 catalogue for sail slides gives full info on this.

Try www.kayospruce.com Phone: 01489 581696 or email: info@kayospruce.com
Ask for a copy of their catalogue, a most useful one for sailcloth and fasteners and fittings and more!

No connection.

I'm afraid that you won't get any slugs to fit a foil.

You will either have to remove the foil and fit piston hanks to the foresail or leave the foil on and reduce the size of the luff tape.

I've never heard of a genoa with slides....
