Here in Poole we generally use LW as a datum for 2 reasons. First it is more reliable than the "highs" and second the strong flows and rises/falls occur roughly +/- 2 1/2 hours either side of this. This governs the best times to enter or exit the harbour and lifting and launching boats in the club, particularly at springs. The local tidal curves give a better picture of the changes in depths during the day than the spot figures in the tables.

Christchurch in a way is more difficult particularly predicting depths and current flows because of the smaller volume of water and the 2 rivers feeding it.

Your on a hiding to nothing looking at HW times for ports with double highs. Through the tide cycle, at one point the first high is higher than the second, then some days later / earlier the second high is higher than the first. As the high point transits from first to second there will be a time when the two points are of equal height and you get a 'tide stand'.
Oh the joys of being in the solent area !
The depth really is my problem. I have come down the river on occasions when the depth guage showed 0.3m. I had to tilt my engine so it was nearly out of the water just to keep going. That wasn't even at low water !

The depths in the harbour have been quite low this summer, expecially towards the end when river flow was nearly non existent. The mill stream was even backfilling back beyond the ducking stool.

My Christchurch tide table for the entrance for today, 15th November gives -
1st HW 0120hr 1.3m
2nd HW 0420hr 1.5m
LW 0815hr 1.0m
1st HW 1335hr 1.4m
2nd HW 1615hr 1.5m
LW 2035hr 0.7m

Tuckton is around 30 minutes later and the river flow may make both the high waters very similar.
As I mentioned in post 20, I haven't found an online free tide table that shows the double HW. Reeds almanac shows it for Poole and years ago the Admiralty produced NP 191 that showed the tides for various places including Christchurch.

Telstar #24 Unfortunately totally Apple so Android won’t work, the P. C. Is so old it still runs on Windows 95 so again pretty useless except for the old Neptune tides, but still useful for these.
Didn’t make Fishguard this year, everytime we tried the winds dropped to such an extent that Ynys Loctyn was about our furthest achievement. Even our major race Aberaeron-Patches-Aberaeron ended up a drifting contest.
Hopefully next year

+1 for Imray Tides Planner + the various Tide Atlases that are available for a small annual payment. Graphically excellent.

Nobody has mentioned the Boatie app which has both graph and tables, and a slider fir calculating depth at times. I use that on my phone, Easytide on a laptop and a free copy of the annual tide tables downloaded from the Premier Marinas website!

No such thing as an accurate tide time table, it's a prediction based on averaged results.. and very few days are average..
I live on the east coast of Norfolk, the tide is affected by..
A northerly or westerly increases tide height,
A southerly or easterly decreases tide height.
When the peak or trough happens depends on when the wind occurs, it's direction and how strong it is.

I sail at a river club, a southerly or easterly means the rivers flow out for longer changing the time tides change. a Northerly, 19miles inland by river, the high tide arrives early and leaves late..

Get a northerly for several days, spring tides and we get floods..

Ive been using beachguide for years as a reference for tide times and it works perfect for me. I am on the beach at low water almost every day and find it accurate.
