Might have seen my earlier post about sail-to-power. Still humming about what to do, and pending our trip to SIBS I have been browsing and "researching". We've seen this:

http://www.boats.co.uk/boats-for-sale/absolute-47-1791

Which I have to say looks stunning, offers all of the accommodation we need. Looks very lovely to my eyes. Passes all of Mrs Scala's style and accommodation tests. In budget / affordable (or as much as any boat is). Has Volvo IPS 600 with D6-435s. 500 hours in a 10 year old boat seems very modest to me.

I happen to be near Poole on Wednesday so could go and take a look. Interested to know what the collective view is of these boats generally, and this one in particular.

Thank you.

Sure it’s a stunner , check how old the wrap is ? - is it a tart up job by the accomplished sellers ?

Do your research on the aged IPS and D6 running costs .

Once the warranty ,however inviting it sounds runs out you are on your own .

Twin shafts at his size and age will be less £££ and down time .

How ever as part of a learning curve if you have the time pop along to view , but ask about the service history and mech file / history before you go and expect it be there for your viewing .

If it s “at another office “
“Awaiting owner to drop off “
“So and so,s on holiday today and he,s had it last “

You need to find out which VP techs have had there hands on it basically and what’s been done on it .

So as an experience go and sniff around a reputable broker to guage the market .
Sure they will have the title , VAT stuff I bet , but it’s the full service history in this case or the excuses .

I think it looks a cracking boat. There is one close to us that is run by a husband and wife team. She drives it in and out of the marina and makes it look like a doddle in all conditions. The one near us has a blue hull and it has suffered in the Med sun, it might be worth finding out what is under that wrap. IPS may not be everyone’s cup of tea and I would get an estimate of how much engine and drive servicing will be so you have an understanding. I believe software updates are also important on IPS, but I am happy to be corrected.

Boats.co.uk get a very good rep on here and as it is a stock boat you could trade your Bav and walk away. Looks of positive points!

What does your wife think??

No harm looking. It will help you know when you find the right boat. And when you get a new, bigger boat your it seems normal very quickly and your old boat seems small.
The lack of a useful galley would turn me off that boat.

Have you looked at any boats yet as my wife was amazed when we started our long search for a motor boat at how much more space you got. That said she still wasn't happy to stay at the same size (10m) and so we moved up to a 12m boat. It will be a while I think until we go up in size again unless something dropped into our laps. Also my wife would be very reluctant to move from our current berth which is capped at 12.00m. Our current boat is 11.77m long!

Wee looked at quite a few before we decided to buy a sailing yacht (which was my, err, "decision"). Totally agree ref space to length ratio, hull shapes are very different obviously. We ended up with a c. 13m yacht to get the amount of space we "needed", and it's proved to be very good.

We'd have to move berths if we went to a 14m but there are one or two available in our home marina (Chichester).

Good news about the berth. We really like our French neighbors and so moving to a larger berth would mean leaving the part of the port we are in for another area. This was ruled out very early. Also annual costs go from €8k for a 12m berth to €12k for a 14.

Everything is relative, I reckon.
I can see why you could consider the galley not "useful" enough, but for the type of boat, actually I don't think it's too shabby.
And - again, considering the boat type - having two to choose from is a nice feature...

We certainly paid less in Edinburgh, but then you can only do so much on the Forth. Also my tan is much better and swimming off the boat is achievable!

It looks nice condition for the year and has an appeal in a posh floating apartment kind of way (which I think would appeal to my wife)......but, I would be put off by IPS worries, strange cockpit layout (no forward facing passenger seating - looks like a big light aperture?), galley looks impractical plus a worry on it's resale (i.e. roll on 5 years, what would the wrap look like / hull underneath, IPS becomes bigger concern for next buyer as price point falls, it's not quite an 'oddball' but certainly not as secure a purchase as a shaft driven boat from one of the brit builders, etc)

Nice boat. With the rear sun pads it is really a med boat so it depends on what you want to do with it and where you want to keep it.

Bear in mind a targa 47 of similar vintage is prob £50 k more.

On which topic if they sill have it they were selling their ex charter t47 for £179k so I could be bought for a bit less. Used well but looked after well also.
