Trev I liked the Absolute alot what I didnt like was being fobbed off at the boat show and being told to come back and when I did come back it was a struggle for the people at the desk to let me see it.

Oh and the staff werent that busy and there werent that many people on board.

Apart from that from my look around the only thing I didnt really like is that the drawers shut with a bang and should have one of those little gadgets that cushion it as it reaches its closing point.

Would like to see a few over in the CI for sure.

Interesting comments.

The ony time I've ever had grief from a publisher was when we got the facts wrong and a writ flew in through the door. Fair enough...

There's always creative tension between ad managers and editors, goes with the territory. If there's not you are probably not doing your job the right way.

PRs ... well some of them consider their job is to try to get you to print, word for word, what they issue, which is sad because the PRs like that generally cannot write in any case. There are others out there who make connections between media and client and know how to step back and bite their lip. Either way, flack from that area goes with the job and that's fine too.

Factory workers...well their loyalty is commendable and the reaction understandable if they believe the comments to be biased but interesting to know how many signatures belong to people who actually go out there and try these things.

Whatever a journalist earns he or she might not want the kind of grief you outline but it goes with the territory. Heat, kitchen and all of that.

As for extremes, well rants against products using words the journalist has had to look up first before using them seem to be amusing an ever greater part of the population but I'm not at all sure that they carry any greater objectivity than those that sycophantically roll over and die. Sometimes I suspect they are geared completely for the greater gratification of the journalist concerned, rather than anything else, with half-an-eye on next year's DVD release.

Yes some of it is fun to read or watch but does it really tell you anything about the products you actually might be buying next week?

The lifeblood of any magazine that wants to carry on killing trees in decent quantities is its objectivity and I woud fear for this company's future if we ever lost sight of that...personally I don't think we have.

Hi Dom

Thanks for your comments, sincere apologies if the girls did'nt let you on quickly enough. It was our first show so everything was a bit hit and miss, we tried our best to get the balance right between people viewing and allowing those already on board to have a good look around.

One of my pet hates is is being shown on to a boat when there are too many people on already, you end up pushing and shoving your way through the boat and the sales guy is usually too busy with someone to answer your questions.

Some of your comment maybe my fault, after the first day we had so many on all at once that I could'nt make sure everyone took their shoes off and were'nt dragging food and drink all over the place and in the afternoon someone left a lovely 8" scratch across the metallic paint work on the dash. I did tell the girls to only let three on at a time thereafter and perhaps they were a little over zelous in following my instructions.

Your comment about the drawers, already 'sorted', next years models have a small bumper pad at the back to soften the action of closing the door.

Again my apologies.

Trev
