Above Leigh on Sea - a drone vid

I could be sorely tempted to go in for one of those things, but.....
Having (in the not too distant past) spent many hours building and flying R/C model aircraft, it seems to me to require a very large act of faith to fly the expensive beast over salt water, Essex mud, and (even more worrying) main roads and peoples' houses!

And the fecking noise, invasion of privacy, don't start me off! Bloody things need licensing!

Thanks Roger. We've bought a boat built at Leigh on Sea (105 years ago) so am starting to get interested in the geography of Leigh on Sea. Anybody know where Bundock Brothers shed was?

How do they make these videos? I think they must be using a real Bell Jetranger, because all my aerial videos are of empty sports fields otherwise my quadcopter gets stuck in a tree.

Ian. I have a picture of Bundock's boat shed which I'll scan later. The shed was east of Bell Wharf. The picture is in a book called Old Leigh -A Pictorial History written by a local vicar John Bundock of the boatbuilding family.

Sooooo agreewith you. Chap in the village has one. He thought it was funny one winter evening to fly round looking in peoples window with it. I went to his house (he was in the back garden) and explained how I was not amused and the fact he was over my property and others and invading privacy - in some flowery language. He took the hint, but next time one flies over the garden, it will be coming down with the aid of a 12 bore.

Gangs are using them here to look at farm yards etc to see if there is anything worth stealing.

A useful publication from Maplin Electronics http://www.maplin.co.uk/medias/drones-legal-revised-28.05.14.pdf?context=bWFzdGVyfHJvb3R8OTQ5MDM1fGFwcGxpY2F0aW9uL3BkZnxoNjIvaDJjLzg5ODEwOTI0MDExODIucGRmfDFmZWNkYzFkMmYyMmJkN2I0OTRmOThkY2EyZTUzNGVhYmVlOTY4MDlmMTFlOGEzNGRmMzRkYTY5MWFhNTlkNjA Explaining the laws governing these things.

The key point being "You must not fly your drone within 50m of a person, vehicle, building
or structure, or over groups of people at any height"
