Hi, i will have a crew chance in Aberdeen (airport). But i see, there is no yachthabour in Aberdeen. My Question. Is it Possible to beth in Aberdeen for 1 or 2 days? or how do you manage this Problem.
Petershead have no Bus Connection in the early Sundaymorning hours. Do anybody knows the Charge for a Cap from Petershead to Aberdeen Airport?

Thanks

Hi Andreas, Aberdeen harbour would really only offer a yacht berthing facilities in an emergency. Peterhead is an excellent yacht harbour, very sheltered and run by friendly helpful people. A taxi from Aberdeen Airport to Peterhead would cost about €100 or £70 I think.

Although I don't know the current situation (I moved my boat to the West Coast of Scotland 7 years ago), historically yachts have moored alongside the Ro-Ro terminal in the Albert Basin for a crew change. They didn't like yachts to be left unmanned and they certainly didn't want long terms stays, but 24hrs to 48hrs was OK.
I've always found Aberdeen VTS very helpful, so why not give them a call, or send them an email.

Stonehaven is an OK harbour for fin keel yachts, but the outer harbour is very exposed to strong winds anywhere from the NE through to the S. The outer harbour can also silt up so I'd check with the harbour master, he's very helpful.

Peterhead Marine is good facility, but it's a bleak place, just below the high security prison and it's a good walk to the town centre, although there is bus stop (with a connection to Aberdeen) on the main road just above the marina.

I kept lifting keel yachts in Stonehaven's drying inner harbour for 20 years, and a fin keel yacht in Peterhead Marina for 4 year, so if you want any further info' please PM me.

I pass the harbour in aberdeen every day to work, and yes, very occasionally there is a yacht lying in one of the inner basins, normally up by the old fish matket, so perhaps it is worth asking ?

Last May, I phoned up Aberdeen from sea when Montrose wouldn't take me (work on the harbour wall) and I didn't want to go back to Arbroath (which I had passed by due to lack of water). Aberdeen said yes, but you may have to wait before you can get in. I waited around an hour, jiggling about before they let me enter. Very interesting movements for the north sea boats and the VHF communications. Same as when I left - took about an hour waiting until they felt there was a slot for me. I was put against a floating dock thing, but I think that was by someone who didn't know what was happening (this was all around midnight).

Very cheap - I seem to remember £25 for five nights. I stayed for two or three and it was the same price.

Very dirty location - boat covered in dark grime, but you are moored right in the centre of the town and there's a feeling of being in the middle of action, which I liked.

Would I do it again? Probably. But then I'm not the kind who is forever cleaning their decks.

Aberdeen airport to Peterhead by taxi is £40. There are a lot of taxi firms do it because of the Oil business. Stonehaven is nice, but the wrong side of town. Not a long walk from Peterhead marina into town.

Just found my pictures of my short stay in Aberdeen. This will give you some indication of the (lack of) facilities.

How short ;)
one night? looks not comfortable. ;)
Thx for the pic

andreas

I think I was there for two or three nights.

Comfortable? Depends upon your notion of comfort. I was happy enough, but my standards are very low. I would not take anyone there if you are on a first date.
