A whole new spin on bucket and chuckit?

I'm somewhat predictably with SeaRush, though despite that he makes an excellent point.

Going back to the OP photo, doesn't that look just like it's going to be catapulted onto target to make the point and get to the marina disposal thing ?!...

Well, they must have been up all night thinking up the name for that one. It's so antipodean, I love it.

In all seriousness, and at the risk of causing some thread drift I have been intrigued for a while by the whole idea of composting WC's for marine use. On paper it would seem to be an ideal solution. Any of you lot have any experience of such installations ?

No experience, but don't see that working for the average weekender/ short holiday trips. Not enough time for it to work I suspect. And you still have to add a large bag of compost to be removed from the boat at regular intervals & to be disposed of somewhere.

It can be bad enough carrying a week's dirty washing ashore to take home! Bags of poo, whether rotted or not don't really bear thinking about in terms of accident risk!

Excellent on a rural farm & certainly practised for millennia before we started living in towns, but not for rme on a boat.

How's this for a bucket and chuckit?

(Bucket goes under the toilet seat)

It's the toilet on the tri Groupama, the tube aft is the rudder tube, handy to hold onto when you're averaging just shy of 20 knots I guess!!!

ermmm......... why do you think there are separate loos for the disabled? I sympathise with your luggage laden wife, but my bro in law is in a wheelchair and gets fed up with waiting for able bodied women, and it's always women, using the disabled loos. I think they like them because they can get half a dozen in at once.

There is no suggestion at least that I can find that radar keys are only for the use of people in wheelchairs.

They ask for no confirmation, ceratinly no proof, that they are only being sold to registered disabled persons.

My wife is getting on a bit and is far from 100% able bodied. She has found that on some railway stations the normal toilets are only accessible via a flight of stairs. Something she has difficulty with normally and absolutely impossible when towing a wheeled case along.

The Radar key solves the problem for her but FWIW I think since she has only used it once since she has had it.

Terribly sorry if on that one occasion your BIL was kept waiting for a few moments.

I can assure you she was not using the toilet with half a dozen others and resent the suggestion .

certainly not, see this from the Radar website:

"The National Key Scheme (NKS) offers disabled people independent access to locked public toilets around the country. Toilets fitted with National Key Scheme (NKS) locks can now be found in shopping centres, pubs, cafés, department stores, bus and train stations and many other locations in most parts of the country.

Order the National Key Scheme Guide 2012 to find out the location of the 9,000 accessible toilets across the UK fitted with the NKS lock. This valuable resource is the only guide of its kind and really does open doors to independent living.

"My guide and key have improved my quality of life and peace of mind immeasurably. I am so grateful to Disability Rights UK for co-ordinating such a fantastic scheme"

Go mobile with Disability Rights Radar NKS key smartphone App - Instantly locate your nearest toilet facility and get directions by road, bus or foot. iPhone app £4.99. Available from the App Store

Disability Rights UK believes that everyone who experiences ill-health, injury or disability should have the same freedom and independence as other citizens. An important part of that freedom is having the confidence to go out, knowing that public toilets will be available, accessible and will meet your needs.

Important - We only sell the Radar NKS Key to people who require use of the toilet facilities due to thierdisability or health condition. Please tick the box in the check out area. "

If they are for anyone to use why have locks? To keep the vandals out I suppose. If my b-i-l has to wait at least he's sitting down.

Some years back after I read the wonderful book below I set up a composting loo, on land, where I lived in Greece. Worked fine and no problem with smells or rats and emptied every 6 months. I tried it on the boat using bags to bring back to land but the main difficulty then was separating the wee (very important) and the lack of composting bags, although nowadays there are plenty of products for both.
