A week away in Corsica (pics)

Nice stuff Jimmy. I've always liked Girolata but really got to love the place during our 2 stop overs there this year. I've got a bunch more pictures which I need to sort out and put on here soonish. I loved your floating tender picture!

Great pictures! Love the floating tender.
We are so looking forward to emulating your trip next year, may give the narrow bits a miss!!

great pics Jimmy! really making me want to be in the sun, can't wait for holiday in a few days!

sorry for thread drift but if we wanted to take a day boat (rib) down to SoF for a holiday, any suggestions on where to base to give some nice destinations for day trips?

Loads of places but 2 good ideas:
Antibes+/- 10 miles: loads of interesting and beautiful anchorages within 10nm and complex shaped coast so you always have a lee. The Antibes posse can help you store a trailer and there are plenty of hotels
W coast Corsica: St florent has loads of RIB berths, Calvi is good, Porto (nr Girolata) is good, and all give you access to the We coast of Corsica

I have a post about Corsica on the go, though JtB has beaten me to it! :D I'll post it soon

To add to jfm's good suggestions, you could also base yourself around Hyeres/Lavandou and explore the area between Bandol and St Trop, including the Calanques and the Porquerolles Islands. You said SoF, but you could also consider Italian Riviera between Portofino and La Spezia, or further down between Piombino and Monte Argentario, which gives you easy access to the Tuscan Islands.

Great Pics Jimmy

Now that I've seen your pics of the Gargalu passage, I'm really glad I chickened out when we were there.
Rocks either side of you are "kind of" on the charts and we were having such a great time where we were there that we didn't want to spoil it with an accident in the Gargalu passage

Thanks for posting - brings back memories - maybe we will be back there again sometime - especially Girolarta

Great pics Jimmy, thanks. I'l try and post a few pics of our trip at some stage as well.

Just before you go through the Gargula passage there is another stunning anchorage

Just next to the anchorage is a cave, you can go in about 50 yds by tender ...

... then another 50 yds on foot. This is looking back towards the entrance, the tender is just round the corner.

Thanks Jimmy, these posts do take a bit of effort to put together, so thanks for sharing.
That was some cloud formation !

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I wanted to post this video. This was taken halfway between Girolata on Corsica and Antibes in mainland France - so about 50nm from the nearest bit of land. It's not the most rivetting video you'll ever see, granted, but it really does capture the sea state that morning.

Couldn't get the video to work (might be an issue with my iPad) but just read the post. Great pics of what looks to have been a fantastic cruise. The water looks a little different from what we get on the east coast! :)
