A lovely sail here last night, timed the ebb/flood just right from Foxs. Woke up this morning to this view, utterly still, not a sound. Going up to Mistley later to see the infamous Quay, weather set fair for a few days, still got two weeks holiday left :p

I'm not much of a photographer I'm afraid, but I tried to capture the feel of it:

Lunch was excellent, very friendly team there. The RIB ride back was cold and not quite fast enough, I need to get a mechanic to swap the carb for a 15hp one (same engine) as we were struggling to get on the bow wave, even more so after lunch :o

We anchored about 2 miles from Manningtree and had a visit from the harbour patrol as they had a ship coming to Mistley, friendly chap, reckoned I'd just about got it on the edge of the fairway. Nasty fences still up at Mistley, no where obvious to get ashore.

Back at Wrabness tonight, if it gets any stiller then I'll asume the rapture has taken place and we've been left behind.

What a lovely video/music- so nice to be able to put faces to forumites,it brings a whole new pleasure to viewers.

Maybe others will do the same?

Thank you, we enjoy looking back at them. Going to try video this year, something I can attach to a very long stick and also film underwater sailing shots, going all modern to emulate Halcyon, good practice for the move to the Baltic next year.

Popped into Levington - head's up the diesel is very cheap at 99p per litre on 60/40. But the chandlery is totally weird - they don't take plastic for consumables, was trying to stock up on beer, wine and the like and they only take cash, it was like being back in the 1980's. Nice people though. Filled up with water and washed the Daschie, he was ponging a bit.

The Orwell is amazingly quiet tonight. Harwich old town tomoz, wandering the curio shops, kids on the playground and top curry for dinner.

Just for info.

The grocery/alcohol/papers side in the chandlery is run independently by a gentlemen who owns Nacton Village Store. I presume it would mess up SYH accounting if they used their card system - hence the cash only bit.

I agree it's not ideal when you want to buy a lot of stuff but it's better than nowt.

+1

Use the facility frequently - if only for the odd paper or pint of milk.

Indeed, though he might sell rather more if he allowed cards, it's the best stocked consumable section I've seen in a chandlery, I'm sure he'd sell buckets more wine if he took cards. Still it's delightfully Suffolk isn't it.

Harwich this morning was excellent, maintaining its strange mix of faded gentility and Eastenders charm. Younkers ran off some energy. H bought a vintage easel for her foredeck watercolours - commissions undertaken ;)

This morning we set sail for the Deben, delightful sail all the way, now sitting pretty on one of those free moorings at Ramsholt, maintained for us visitors by the retired gentlemen of Cambridgeshire.

A turn ashore in the RIB beckons then H says its peppered steak and a rice dish tonight and it's still only Monday so nearly a week left of the holiday.

I thought I explained it quite clearly.

It's a remote operation. Mostly during the day he's at the village stores. He pops over to re-stock, bring papers & fresh sandwiches etc.

He's not there full time with his credit card machine.

Hence cash only.

I doubt that there's enough business their to justify the hassle of getting a separate card system in operation anyway.

Had a nice chat with him today no collecting box was proffered & he wasn't bothered we hadn't asked, not surprised as 90% of them were vacant. Nice of someone to keep them maintained for our visits :encouragement:

Back to the Orwell tomorrow I think, the fridge is out of everything except bacon and eggs, no beer and the wine was finished tonight, time to restock with some chateaux Lidl. Easterly wind so should be a pleasant reach all the way down and a run up the Orwell, bit of a punch to get out of here though, that extra red is really helpful in the Deben entrance BTW.

Fantastic you are having a great time and yes when I came down the Deben the other day Ramsholt was empty. Up the Orwell and RHYC was only half full too.

Isnt it Tuesday mind ???

have a good one, Col.

Yes, got my days wrong. We put the chute up once past Shotley and had no more than 5k of wind but a magnificent sail all the way to the bridge. Perfect end to a holiday away.
