In the water .... most of the year!!

Just a week ago many will remember that I received a call from the marina to say that my boat had broken her warp springs and had hit the pontoon. The warps were 24mm. I was really concerned that the damage would be substantial and I eventually because of the damage and the poor weather last week decided that I would take her to her winter berth and take her out of the water to do a full check.

Her is the damage I was greated with at the marina.

Not a pleasant sight but it didn't look as bad as I expected, most of it was caused by rubbing rather than banging against the pontoon.

This is what it looks like now out of the water and after the 70 mile trip.

All in all she isn't that badly damaged and there doesn't seem to be any plank damage, just a little putty that has been "shocked" out. The repair will be easy to fix with a neat scarf joint and the rest is paint. Just shows how strong these old wood boats are.

So its a little wood work and some more Dulux and alls well! Oh yes and a little bit of brass trim.

Thankfully no damage to the hood ends. But still bad enough, 24mm warps parted?? some bloody surge that is, reminds me to stay at anchor if I ever go to Holyhead again, last time I was there, was no marina!!

If I didn't know otherwise I d say that someone had either pushed the bow over the pontoon sideways with a bow thruster or a collision from a boat moving across the bow.

They said that the winds were up to 65knts on the night! There were a few boats that had some damage but I think LS was the worst! just my luck!!!!

It's all repairable and in the great scheme of things not that bad. It could have been much much worse.

Anyway it will give me something to do this winter. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Still, it's not pretty and it must hurt to see LS in this state.

I would get the Wimmin rubbing it down straight away, while you supervise from a distance. In a couple of weeks you'll be able to make the repair and then leave them to repaint it.

Seems a no brainer to me.

Ouch, those photos made me cringe Tom. As you say, could have been worse, but nevertheless....

Anyway, as you're out of the water I'm looking forward to some ace weather between now and April /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
