Perhaps this should be a sticky. Others decide. Maybe across all forums, it was never exclusive.

130 burgess went out on first launch. It took a year or two to catch up after that, Some flags went round the world. Some in far flung lands.

MBY Asked and was granted permition to make a copy of the mouse to show it on Their exhibits. Far bigger.

Fair play, The forum flag belonged to the users. Not to MBY and they accepted that. But unfortunatlly fourum
useres stopped buying the flag After a few years. So it no longer can be provided.

well thats one cluttered cupboard less, now what to do with the large anchor and chain, the two large propellers, and of course the bashed davits.

Went to a Boat Jumble a couple of weeks ago for the first time
Anything bashed and useless and the 'punters' were queing up!
Good gear was ignored:confused:
It was my first time at any sort of 'jumble' be it a car boot etc.
Couldn't believe the rubbish that was sort after!
From what my childers say an others.
The rest is 'e bay' material it seems:rolleyes:

Dunno what to say about hlb's flagging business.
Maybe not enough Peeps are aware there is such an Item?

that's a real shame after all the effort!

Any chance of IPC taking the reminder and flogging them off on the stand ? (RICHARD !)

Big chance for YBW to publicise the forum and its services, and it might entice anyone at the show who hasn't got one to buy this exclusive symbol of maritime history.

If you really really want to give it up H, I'll offer to run it.

hlb, that is indeed sad news. I loved my Forum burgee and it was even purchased its own special burgee flag staff for my old Merry Fisher, but alas even after spoiling it to such an extent it did have a desire to go swimming .... which indeed it did one day never to return... so I for one now need another....one of those things I kept meaning to do, but now. am I tooo late???:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Are they going to become sought after and be worth lots of money?

I think you will find that is the answer! ;)

This is sad news indeed Haydn. I have a circa 2004 edition, still in it's original box - well, manilla envelope. Never did get round to buying flag staff to fly it from. Does this make it a collectors item? I wonder when Antiques Road Show is in the area next:D:D

Eddie

Depressing news indeed, hlb. My forum burgee has ranged all over the E Channel and the Med and I regurlarly get people coming upto me and asking why I'm flying a burgee with a stupid rat drinking a martini cocktail on it. Have you got any left?

you must meet a more intelligent crowd on your travels than I do....a few have postulated the existence of a rodent but that's as far as they get!

had 3, have 1 now (Stingo went off with my personalised one when he was heading off on his travels from a Scuttlebutt Cherbourg meet some years back and hadn't got one ... it was well traveled as a result). the first suffered exposure issues and was retired - the third flies on (and isn't left permanently fluttering in the elements - it also seems a better cloth etc).

definitely remains a must have piece of kit - but I can understand why demand has fallen off!

Agreed

Should've had 'em made out of cheap printed tatt like some of the ensigns that are about, folk would've replaced 'em then when they went in tatters.
It would be sad if it went though, I'll volunteer to keep it going if you're serious.

I was proud to fly one for 3-4 years and welcomed forum members aboard for a beer many times, you are welcome any time Duncan.
I removed my burgee about a year ago when there was a barrage of nasty posts .

I don't expect I am the only one who doesn't want some forum members to stop by for a beer, I think its just the tone of the forum, not as jovial as it used to be, the lounge removed much of the friendliness.

So,Does that mean i wont be getting one then? (i only just sent for it !!!)

Just read me PMs --going now to get drunk and drown me sorrows.Cant we get some more??

Thanks Haydn

Sorry to hear that Haydn. I know you put in a lot of effort over the years so I think everybody owes you a vote of thanks.

Another British Business driven to the wall by recession :)

Yes, thanks Haydn for supplying them up until now.
I repeat, to those that haven't seen them, that they are of a far better quality than "normal" burgees.

Doing the flags was never a problem. I enjoyed it, especially when there were loads to go out. But about three years ago, they started slowing down. Each time I got some more, the question was, will these ever go, or will I be stuck with them.

The irritating thing. Folk would ask to buy one, say the cheque was in the post, only about one in five ever arrived.

No, the flag was never well advertised, it was not advertised much when 130 went out in the first week or the years that followed. But then I dont think it was ever intended for the bod that went on MBY once, to ask a stupid question.

It always was, your flag, not mine.

Tug, like I said. You've got a special upside down one coming.
