On Friday night we had a talk in our little club in Burnham on sea.
"Feeding the Bear"
The speaker was, in 1934, a newly qualified, 17 year old radio operator on his first "Murmansk convoy" . He spoke softly of his experiences.
What a story - a wonderful evening for the 50 odd members who attended. (only 120 in the club - and 3 inches of untreated snow outside)
We see and hear so much crap - often directed at us - but I was suddenly proud to be English, proud to be a sailor and even the Bristol Channel took on an aura of calm. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
He still sails a Westerley 22 out of the river Brue.
