A problem with naming my boat?

Now im on the verge of buying my first boat i have started thinking about names.

I would love to name my boat 'Saoirse' which is Celtic-Irish for 'Freedom'........ unfortunately no-one knows how to pronounce it correctly which is 'Sur-sha'

Would this cause a lot of problems when communicating with other boats, harbour masters and the coast guard etc? And has anyone had similar issues

 
Even if you have a ‘normal’ sounding name, once you cross a border there can be communication issues. Even some navy ships have difficult to pronounce/spell names.
But for me, the last conversation that I want to have as I’m going underwater is how to pronounce the boats name

To be honest (after watching your video) I’d never heard of her. So why don’t you call your boat Ronan or even Una (her middle name)????‍♂️

Shes a very famous actress but im not naming my boat after her.....i added the video to show that people struggle with that name :LOL:

SWMBO is from the north of the Emerald Isle and we considered various Irish names and came to the conclusion that based upon previous experience a name that people can pronounce and spell was preferable. I am hoping to keep the name the boat has had since new but there is not domestic harmony on this point! ?

Changing a boat name is a complicated business involving much superstition and incantation

Yeah shes lovely.....i think ive pretty much decided thats gonna be Saoirse if someone doesnt buy it first before i can get there to look around her.

Id only make a few after market changes like i want a decking on the sidedecks/flybridge/froward deck, traditional electric oven, separate microwave, carpets on the lower decks and in the cabins, water maker, dockmate, hidden safe and popup lighting on the forward deck

Shane, I think I would be rather wary of salesmen who have opening lines like this :
"The great dream of a seaman is to afford long sailings, gazing at the horizon, without sacrificing the daily comforts available on the mainland. With no doubt, the Navetta 52 luxury yacht will succeed in meeting this desire, raising charm and curiosity thanks to the combination of the spaces size, the efficiency and the refinement of her details. "

If you do buy a new Navetta, will you ship her back to Europe when you have finished your cruise in the Old World, or sell her locally and buy another boat in Europe?

I think you said in your other thread that you would initially do a cruise along the ICW with a paid skipper to 'learn the ropes' so to speak..
Are you still also thinking about a Great Loop trip involving the Mississippi?

No i'll probably just hang around Florida for the winter....... maybe do the Florida loop a few times

Then head up north along the ICW/Coastal next spring up to Newport

Then ship the Navetta from Newport to Southampton next May (ish)

Id like to do a few weeks in the Norwegian Fjords and then head down to the Mediterranean

Or......sell the Navetta in the USA and upgrade to a 60ft in the Mediterranean.

It really depends when i can get out to the USA but i have to be in the Mediterranean for next June/July whatever happens
