A problem with naming my boat?

If you plan to import the Navetta to the UK or to Europe then make sure it's not a US-market-only version (if such a thing exists) eg it will need CE Certification, and 220/240v AC electrics to name two things that might trip you up.

Yep.....im sure those are all things that will come up in negotiations. (y)

Its an Italian designed and manufactured boat so im sure its follows all EU regulations anyway.

Id love to buy a boat in the UK and have british plugs and get all the stuff i need from John Lewis (5 year warranty) but the sales tax is £300,000 in the UK.

Thats alot of money

Changing a boat name is a complicated business involving much superstition and incantation

Very true, I was told it was bad luck changing the boats name, but we went ahead did all the incantations, walked round the boat three times.

The outcome was nothing but bad luck for years, I will never rename a boat again.

I think the trick is when you perform the rite, you have to believe, really believe??

I renamed several would you have lived with 'Duzn't nag' or 'Norsaya'? Our preferred name is 'Heartbeat' but not changed our current boat to it as removing the painted on names too much hassle.

One big consideration is if part one registered the name has to be unique and pre-approval sought.

CE: I suggest you don't assume that the boat will be compliant, you need to see the Builders' certificate for 'your' boat. If it's not you can't sell it in Europe and you may may find that you can't import it either.

AC Power: It's not about the sockets, US boats may have 110v electrics throughout which is a whole world of pain. Many don't. But you need to know.

Sales Tax / VAT: You'll have to pay it on import to UK and / or Europe anyway, based on its value at the time. If you're only 'passing through' then OK no tax to pay, but it will have to keep moving. (90 days in 180 I think) but this issue is not clear yet due to the impact of Br***t ...

Scantily clad nubile dancing girls is still a big draw. Enough to entice Neptune to fall off the wagon. That's where Halcyon went wrong I bet. No dancing girls, no play.

Did you have bananas on board?

It could've been those that caused all that bad luck :p

Oh rubbish. Bananas are the best insurance policy ever. We keep a bunch onboard and when ever we feel down on our luck we throw one into the sea. Works a charm. Especially when shark fishing. No bites? No problem, throw a banana in. Pielas. I'm a believer. Seen it work too many times.
