My wife and I went down to our boat today at SYH around lunchtime & we were greeted at the entrance by Bob (SYH) & a policeman.

Apparently they were expecting a royal visitation & we were directed to go the back way to our parking space near our berth.

Princess Anne was to perform a ceremony at the East Anglian Sailing Trust's new premises at the marina (they won a £50000 lottery funded grant earlier this year & thoroughly deserved in my opinion) in an hour or so.

Needless to say police were everywhere - as were the plainclothes officers assigned to royal duties.

I've never seen her in person before but throughout the proceedings she seemed as unaffected as a one could be given her royal background. My wife's a royalist & I'm a bit agnostic about them but I must say I was mightily impressed.

She can moor next to me with her new Rustler anytime  .

I had a few minutes chat with her at a Mental Health function a few weeks ago. One very clued up person about the issues, and also very animated about the new boat - she knows her sailing !

It's funny - from behind the crash/security barrier she didn't seem that small - I was expecting something Jimmy Clitheroe size after all that I'd heard.

She looked standard size female to me (ie non-amazon) when against other lesser mortals. I'm sure, like many other women, she wears heels to her advantage.

Don't want to say much more - it seems disrespectful (royal convert - well Anne anyway).

Or when I spoke with PP and explained what sort of adventure training we were using at the school, he said "You must try Water Skiing, then."

We had a detailed chat about the kit and techniques of said activity for a few minutes, and he went away shaking his head a little. An aide came up and said, I think you must have misunderstood; he said "Award Scheme".

Did my chances of gong no good, as we were already the biggest DofE centre overseas :D

I met Anne 'off duty' as it were, at Cowes years ago. She seemed a very nice lady and I should imagine could be a good laugh. Her sister was a good laugh when I had tea with her a lot of years later.

It's a long story that requires actions, involving poachers, a lot of rain, a large country house, a roaring fire and a bottle of gin. Featuring a lord and a misunderstanding with his butler. With a cast of sundry spear carriers and a menagerie.

Okay, I made the last sentence up but the rest is true. I'll tell you all in person one day.
