Last news I saw on the subject said that none of the Ministries wanted to pay for this white elephant. I note there's nothing in that article saying that the MoD have changed their mind, only that Clown-Shoes Churchill is trying to dump it on them.

Putting it in the hands of MoD procurement could guarantee cost and schedule performance possibly to a level that makes Dido Harding's tenure of Test 'n Trace look like value for money. Why not take advantage of the Covid cruise market downturn and repurpose one of the many laid up cruise ships dotted around the country, probably greener than sending them east to be broken up?
I love the priorities - break the solemn pre-election promises to maintain the "triple lock" and maintain aid at 0.7% of GDP but it's ok to splaff millions on a toy for Boris.

The BBC wording was interesting as in funded through the MoD budget as opposed to out of the MoD budget. BBC well known for accurate journalism just as MoD well known for timely procurement and bringing projects in on budget. It is an opportunity for British shipbuilding though.

Not really. The new WTO deal that Liz Truss has signed means it has to go to international tender, unless they can convince WTO it's a new type of cruiser.

The UK lost it's major yards when the Government decided to classify them as Military Vessel yards - unable to apply the same tariff structure or subsidies that were available to commercial yards.

Feadship knock out bigger, fancier and more stylish things by the dozen. Even if this were built it would do for the British ship industry what the GT35 did for the British yacht industry: two-fifths of the square root of stuff all.

And what will it do for British prestige when the "national yacht" can be outclassed by any lower-ranking Silicon Valley type with one of Bezos' cast-offs?

And wots rong wiv a Sunseeker . ?
We could send it over to patrol the Channel isles in awkward moments when the Clown in Chief needs to deflect attention yet again from chaotic internal political strife in perfidious Albion.
We could call it "The Dominic Cummings .

Where I'm from, that fraction is reduced to five-eighths of f' all.
But yer right, shipbuilding is coming home only in the sense that football is.

It's just a rumor that was spread around town
By the women and children, soon we'll be shipbuilding

I read these posts with puzzlement. The President of China has changed the rules and I think he is president for life, I believe the esteemed President in Russia has done the same thing and neutered the opposition. Has your respected Prime Minister done the same thing? These things, shipbuilding, whoever builds it (we still build warships in Oz - must send note to ScoMo) will take years as you all seem to think your PM will still be there when it is launched.

This is what always happens. Officially, the taxpayers support the royal family to the tune of just under £90 million. The reality is, the taxpayer support them to the tune of billions. But it’s all hidden in other budgets, the MoD, Foreign Office, Home Office etc etc
