Hi Byron my English is not that bad to need a translator but thanks for trying anyway!! I can give you this adress wich is the most popular magazine in my country http://www.nautica.it/boatshow/annunci.htm In any case I must tell you that adverts with price shown are very little (10%) they sort of love to receive a phone call asking the price! My opinion is that English boats are very well considered but still we buy them around 15% cheaper.
Hi, welcome to the madhouse.
We have 2 x 3208TAs 375 hp which have done 1600 hours without, touch wood crossed fingers, have not given trouble. Have yours been overheated or gone short of oil. Did the run hot before the damage ie ? heat exchanger problems.
Pauljs_eng is a professional who contributes here and may advise. I spent a lot of time looking at boatdiesel.com and they reckoned on more toruble from the higher rated 3208s ie > 375hp. They used to get v long lives out of engines that were used constantly like fishing or commercial boats. Intermittent use in a liesure boat often wrecks engines by underuse and problems at 300 hours in 10 years suggests it has not been used much. Was it serviced regularly? Was the oil sent for sampling?
Hi Anthony, yes these engines where very little used (30hours per season) plus an hour every two weeks during cold seasons.serviced regularly at cat mec; More, previous owner hardly went more than 2200 rpm because someone suggested him so!! Cat mec says that 375 hp are ok, 425 do have problems, but HE SAYS 435s dont have many problems. What I'm trying to know if there is any evidence that cat kows my sort of problem or if is just bad luck!
Thanks anyway
Massimo

Running engines for an hour or so every 2 weeks (presumably at idle to warm them up) is positively the WORST thing one can do to an engine. They don't get proprly hot (no turbo boost) so the bores can glaze and the oil gets contaminated but not hot enough to evapourate the water off and 90% of all engine wear takes place in the first 5 minutes of starting up.
However, that may give you rattly worn smokey and down-on-power engines but will not obviously lead to a cracked head. I have not heard of cracked heads as a regular problem. I will PM Pauljs in case he has not seen this thread.
